Terms of Use

These terms are an agreement between you and Athol Ironworks LLC, the provider of the Hot Metal Math app ("the app"). By using the app you agree to them. Contact: [email protected].

1. Reference only

Heat-treat data in the app is compiled from cited sources such as steel maker and supplier datasheets, published handbooks and experienced smiths. Some values are approximate (for example, read from published graphs or converted between hardness scales) and are marked as such. Values vary by supplier, batch, section size and equipment. Always verify with the steel maker before treating.

2. Safety

Forging, quenching and tempering involve fire, hot metal and flammable oils. You alone are responsible for safe practice, your equipment and your results.

3. No warranty; limitation of liability

The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the extent allowed by law, we are not liable for damaged work, injury or loss arising from use of the app, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the app.

4. Pro and tips

Pro is a one-time purchase (no subscription) that gives you a license tied to your Google Play or Apple account. You can restore it in the app. Optional $1, $3 and $5 tips are one-time purchases that unlock nothing. Supporter tips of $10, $25, $50 or $100 are one-time purchases that include Pro and can be restored. Prices are shown in the store in your local currency. Refunds are handled by the store under its policies, except where the law requires otherwise. Tips are not tax-deductible.

6. Your content

Your notes, log and custom steels are yours and stay on your device.

7. Acceptable use

The app and its compiled data belong to Athol Ironworks LLC, and the app is meant to be used the way it is designed: as a heat-treat reference. We grant you a personal license to use it for that purpose. You may not decompile, disassemble, reverse-engineer, modify or take apart the app, extract its data, or copy, resell or redistribute the app or its data, except where the law expressly allows it. If you use the app in a way it is not intended for, or break these terms, we may suspend or end your access to the app.

8. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Idaho, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Kootenai County, Idaho.

We will post changes on this page and update the effective date.
